Brunner’s Construction 40th Anniversary
The Brunner’s Construction Anniversary party was one of our favourite events from 2014. Here are some photos and notes about the process and inspiration that went behind putting together the event.

Our friends at MJ&Co also put together a fantastic time-lapse video to show the amazing transformation of the space.
A WOW centrepiece. Since the tables would not have place settings the centrepieces needed to standout. We mixed loads of textures, heights and colours to give guests something interesting to look at from every angle.
The small wooden vases stood out just as much as the bright orange flowers on the cocktail tables. We had the vases stained in a warm rich tone to balance out the colour on the concrete tables. The florist added just a little sparkle gloss which finished off the look perfectly.
Since this was a family affair we put the bosses to work and had them help create a fun and personal touch to the signature drink menu. It’s always a good idea to bring personality to the space, the drinks were a huge hit and these personal touches kept the event intimate.
Swag bags are a fun and limitless way to say thank you to your guests. We used the swag bags as part of the decor in the event space so we had to make them interesting. This was a great opportunity to pull in out accent colour and promote the business logo.
We wanted everything to be interesting and balanced. We included heavy mixed materials such as handcrafted wooden centerpieces with concrete vases, we added soft elements with two tone flower arrangements and candles and pulled in personal elements with photographs of Brunner’s spanning the last 40 years. In the end we achieved the perfect balance of elegance and masculinity.
The registration table was the only space in which we used a linen, this help distinguish it for guests when they arrived. The table decor was coordinated with the rest of the room with candles, flower arrangements and personal photographs so that table could remain out the whole evening without looking sparse.
Ceiling to floor draping transformed this space from a blank slate warehouse to a jaw dropping venue. Areas of the ceiling were left exposed to allow for the industrial feel of the space to remain while black draping was incorporated to pull the venue space in and make it feel more intimate.
The huge impact of texture and colour on the ceiling helped create an ambiance that no other decor could. Using a second none specific patterned gobo on the ceiling transformed the basic material into a stunning statement.
It’s always important to incorporate personality to any space. We were tasked with the challenge of finding something Brunner’s could use in the event space that tied into their company and what they do. That’s when we came across these, 1500lbs catch basins. A common product used at Brunner’s but that night we flipped it upside down and it doubled as a stunning and truly unique cocktail table.
For the event we had custom made and branded wooden centrepieces and serving boards. Each plank was handcrafted and branded with the Brunner’s ‘B’ to add a truly personalized element.
Grazing tables are a great way to get guests moving, since Brunners event was a cocktail reception food stations were set up all around the outside of the room. Spacing food out rather than one long buffet lines encourages your guests to mingle and move around the space more.
Rather than just typical serving platters we had custom serving boards made for the event, completed with the Brunners ‘B’. All handcrafted items were made completely from scratch, stained and branded. These small detail elements set the event apart and created a warm feel to the party.
An unexpected highlight of the night were the unbelievably entertaining bartenders. Guests were treated to bottle juggling, fire blowing between drinks.
Happy 40th Anniversary Brunner’s!
